Brits Opinion on Australia: Why you should move to Australia over the USA

Why you Should you move to Australia over the USA We know a lot of people watching our channel want to escape the dull grey grimness of the UK. We chose to move to the USA having not considered Aus. I take all of January and February off every year, working for a major US airline at full pay, after lots of years… Everything here depends on your company. I use to want to move to Australia or Canada for political purposes and found that I make 40% more than my Australian and Canadian counterparts. My social security pension is so much more than I could get in Australia or Canada. Health care for me is cheaper in the US than I could have in Australia or Canada because I’m a contract worker. Income taxes are so low here for people at my income level… Life is good… I’m usually in London every weekend. I love that city, but life is more affordable for me here… I hope you two make the best lives that you can here in the USA! Welcome home!

In part 2 we talk more on this. Since moving here we do not find the nature of people to do that different to those in the UK. There are good and bad, greedy and not greedy every where. We simply find the better quality and elevation of more people, allows them to do more for their family, friends and others.

There is a renewal of the registration tags each year, based on the value of the car and a passed a SMOG test (Nevada). This can be different state to state. Similar to the UK road tax with MOT. We are still learning how this works.

So why do we see videos saying the complete opposite about Americans in other countries saying how costly medical insurance is and how it covers nothing. • @ANTSEL

We always state that this is our experience. We are not saying other people with out medical insurance or a worse type of insurance do not pay more. We are simply speaking to our literal experience, and to the many people we have been around since moving here that do not claim their healthcare costs crazy amounts.

I love the way you guys are analytical regarding taxes and health care including receipts. I have lived in the US all my life and before Obama health care was bad in this country. We had something called "pre existing confitions" Health Insurance could deny you due to having epilepsy, diabetes etc and there was no place you could get coverage. The best program that people here rarely take advantage of is Health Care Savings Accounts. These are tax deductible accounts that you can use for any health care services. It also gives you peace of mind when you have a large deductible. I've been to the UK and not Australia. Both appear to be great. We're lucky to have so many great choices in places to live.

Nope.......don't like American gun culture, health care, homelessness, food is full sugar and toxins, food portions are massive which breads overweight people, Winters are freezing hell holes whereby you have to shovel snow all the time and in terms of big salaries - it's very well known that only the top end earns big but low and middle income jobs earn very little in America. Furthermore, what about paid sick leave, 4 weeks annual leave, maternity leave, public holidays etc so working conditions in America is shocking. And as for tipping in shops and restaurants- that's toxic

Gun culture is fine. America has better funded hospitals than Australia, as well medical tech and medical knowledge. Australian food is no better, Australia has plenty overweight people and Australians are often alcoholics. Furthermore, America isn’t a “freezing hellhole” as unlike Canada and Australia, America is varied in weather. Florida is tropical, and the middle part of America is quite temperate. Even in regards to snow though, it beats sweating all day in the scorching heat of Australia and being around massive bugs all day. Love to see ignorant Australians so patriotic of a country that tries to mimic American culture. I’d rather be in North America than Australia since North America has more freshwater than AUS ever will. AUS is also losing fresh water. :)

To people who say that in the US if you don't have money, you'll just die, I present to you the case of my mother, who was on the Harris County's medical program for low-income residents. She's a green card holder. Starting from November 2022, she has had multiple falls, leading to bone fractures and episodes of UTI. She's diabetic and also diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson's disease. She had visited her neurologist, endocrinologist, and family doctor multiple times in Houston, going through multiple expensive exams and getting plenty of meds for her conditions during the last couple of years in the US. Her out-of-pocket cost? About $24, total. Last October she went back to China. She told my brother and me that she did not intend to return to the US. She felt lonely here because most of her family members are in China. Both my brother and I have full-time jobs and can't provide the companionship she yearns for. Last month, she told us that she wanted to return to the US. When I asked her what prompted her to change her mind, I had expected her to mention the comfortable living in the US (She lived with my brother in Houston and he makes a very good living). Instead, she said it was the doctors. In her own words, "I enjoyed socialist treatments in a capitalist country, but experience capitalist treatments in a socialist country." She couldn't stop talking about how nice and patient Americans doctors were with her. They chatted with her and took the time to learn about her symptoms. Her medical treatments cost next to nothing. In China, on the other hand, she is constantly pressured by doctors and hospitals to go with the most expensive medication and treatments. She described them as "money-grabbers." My brother is currently in China and he's bringing her back early next month.

everything a country is, in terms of how good or bad that are happening to the lives of the population in general, is base on how much influence/control/directly deal with the country's population over their politicians and their government admin/management..... more or less, it's about how much an individual have control over their life, magnified by the populations number, and that's what makes a country great to live in....... realistically there are certain degrees and level to law/order/government rights, freedom/independence/free will, capitalism/equal opportunity/wealth access, compliant/compulsory/control over population, etch..... it's finding the best balance the population wants under best solutions-practical-achievable.... for example, if UK was run and operated like what's best of US and australia (as much as includes elimination of majorly of the population's unhappiness and dissatisfaction) then there's hardly anyone leaving UK but going for extended holidays, and never leaving UK going back and forth...... but then again, UK, US, aus have lost control of our own governments and politicians, because it's the other way around when it comes to having control and the alienation of the citizens of each country..... and in aus we're still have some more hold over our politicians and government than UK and US (ie: bureaucracy and government rights are far more severe in UK and US countries, but aus is not so far behind (as much as our politicians wants the total control over population) as aus as you have seen thinks low of politicians and still pushing for their public service employee (it's debatable when it comes in the reality, specially the power of government applied)......

I LOVE the Mist Trail and the John Muir Trail back. If you continued on from the top of Nevada Falls, you'd be on the trail to Half Dome which is a MUST on your next adventure. I looked up the highest point in the UK and it's Ben Nevis in Scotland at 4,413' elevation. When you were at the Vernal Falls Footbridge, you were at 4,487' elevation. So kudos to you all for hiking up to the top of Nevada Falls which is almost 6,000' elevation! And Ant said that you were all doing well for older people.....I'd say you're doing exceptionally well for any age! I've taken high school kids up that trail and several had to go back to the Nevada Falls rest area since they couldn't make it to the top. I wasn't having too much trouble (I was in my mid-30s and the kids wiere 17 or 18). But Yosemite is a wonderful place to get your hike on!!! I'm looking forward to your San Francisco adventures. Won't be like hiking in the Sierras, but it has its charms.

  • @gregolsen972

The best time to go to Yosemite is in late March or early April going into May. It's usually not hot in the valley, mosquitos aren't nearly as bad, and the waterfalls are thunderous! My husband and I (we lived in the San Francisco area) would come to Yosemite once a month for around 20 years. However, we moved to Hawaii in 2016 and haven't been back to Yosemite since 2014. I know it's gotten a lot more crowded but it's still pretty amazing. Are you planning on climbing Half Dome? If not....put it on your to-do list but only in the spring. BTW: what Ant was calling "a lake" in the valley is actually the Merced River. It only looks like a lake since the river is so broad! I agree with Ant about the Grand Canyon - I've been there three times and each time I was wishing I was somewhere else - it's nice, but that's it. I think you'll love the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone for different reasons. The Tetons are spectacular mountains and wonderful lakes. Yellowstone (right next door to the Tetons) is famous for its thermal pools and geysers, plus the abundance of wildlife! Glacier National Park, on the Montana/Alberta Canada border should also be on your list of parks to visit - spectacular scenery with mountains and lakes. Wildlife everywhere! Some really amazing hikes and mountain bike trails. If you get a chance, come to Hawaii and explore our national parks. Volcanos National Park (on the Big Island of Hawaii) is amazing and very unique. Spend the extra money to stay at the Volcano House Hotel inside the park. Get us early in the morning and hike down into the caldera of Kilauea Volcano and see a really different type of park! The landscape in Volcanos ranges from rainforest to lava desert but there's lots of critters to see. Hawaii is famous for its snorkeling - you don't need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy snorkeling. Wear goggles and a snorkel, maybe add some fins, and jump into the water from a boat (or even try shore snorkeling). It's refreshing and you'll see all kinds of fish who just view you as a big fish!! Have fun exploring more about the country you've chosen to live in. And keep putting up your vlogs.

Thanks for the video. I have a question I’m really trying to find an answer too. My wife works full time as an accountant and I’m self employed. If she gets a job will her visa allow me to travel with her? What other visa would I need to work? Many thanks

Typically she will need to be sponsored by an employer. Depending on the type of visa she is sponsored on, will determine if you can work. They are 2 categories of visa's non immigrant (temp) and permanent ( green card). If she get a green card, then yes you will be be able to work. On the temp working visa's it depends.

Great video! What is the name of the hotel? Looking for a hotel in a good area close to water and restaurants/things to do.

Great video!! would you say El Dorado or Secrets are good for girls trips? Celebrating my bday this year and planning!

For El Dorado, the seaside suites side is better for more social activity although it was pretty dead when we were there. Secrets had a much better ambience overall, and some groups of friends going. Great options for pools and nicer beach. Overall I would say both resorts had more couples than groups of friends. You can definitely have fun at both. Plus if you are in a group, I am sure you can make where ever you go fun :)
